Gpa Todd's Visit

This week we had my dad (Gpa Todd) stay with us from Tuesday late-afternoon until Thursday morning. It was really nice to have him visit, and I was able to get some great pics of him & the girls together. The last time we saw him was Labor Day weekend, when he purchased a car in St. Louis and drove through KC for the night. We really missed seeing Julie this time around, as she was/is recovering still from her recent surgery a couple weeks ago.

I have to share that Destin did a wonderful job this time around with my dad being here. Before on his last two visits, once when Arwen was born in July (he stayed with us for about a week) and then in September (as I mentioned earlier)...she was just very scared to be around my father. She really did not know her Gpa Todd as much as we would like for her to...but thankfully, she is getting used to him with him visiting a little more often. On Tuesday night, they had fun playing with her new toys, Powerwheels car that we got her for Christmas and roller skates.

Wednesday, Gpa Todd, the girls & I went shopping in the morning...we went to Best Buy (where the tech guys were pretty clueless on what they were doing) and bought a new router for my Nook Color (we exchanged my b/w one for the colored one on Mon night - it is sooo cool!). The tech guys said I needed a new Nook, but it was just our cheapy router from Walmart. As soon as we got home that afternoon my Wifi only Nook Color worked great with our new router. I will have to share some of the great eBooks that I found for free at various sites, and how all that works in an upcoming post.

After going to Best Buy, we made a short trip to Target (where Destin had a mini meltdown - I think b/c we didn't stop to look at the toys). Stopped so I could feed Arwen & ate at McCalistersin Lee's Summit (we even saw the mascot for the indoor KC soccer team called the Comets). Destin was pretty scared of the "wolf" and did not eat a whole lot b/c of him coming too close to us during our meal. Then we looked at a few stores (driving by) in the new LS shopping area/mall...its almost like they are making a mini version of the plaza! Lots of stores, upscale stuff, and places to eat outdoors & in!

Destin fell asleep on the way to the grocery store, so my dad went up there by himself there and came back stocking our shelves with frozen pizzas, soup and more! Yay!

That night we ate dinner, played some more and talked about all the upcoming plans of retirement, future visits and so on...and he left the next morning on Thursday. Destin kept asking me where Gpa was, and why he left...I just hope we will see him & Julie sooner than later. Our girls are growing up so fast...and before we know they will be grown!

Messy Terrible Twos

You know how 'they' always say, beware of the "terrible twos"? Well, Destin still has two more months to go until she turns two years old...but she has been having several terrible two moments for months now.

For example, running away from us every time we go to Price Chopper, Walmart, Target, the toy store, the parking lot, our house, etc. You name the place, she has run away from us there!

Another example, throwing a fit every time she doesn't get what she wants. Not sleeping. Not napping.

Today, while I was breast feeding Arwen in bed, Destin decided to climb up the toilet, and pour out half the toothpaste all over the sink - not to mention rubbing it all over her arms/hands/face etc. AHHH! At least I know my bathroom is minty fresh :)

Now I am off to clean the house, fold laundry and continue to organize my mess of a house (after Christmas) before my Dad comes for a visit this afternoon! EEK! Oh and eat lunch - as well clean up all the mess after that too!
I am very lucky to not be like some of my FB friends, who have had to clean up poo off the walls though! Knock on wood!

Our Christmas 2010

We celebrated Destin's 2nd, Arwen's 1st and our 7th Christmas (as a couple) this year :)

On Christmas Eve...we read several Christmas books (as I had them all out in her room all month long), had a snack, bath, and put out cookies, milk & carrots on the fireplace. We had to make sure to block them off with the baby gate (see pic in Dec file) so Daisy & Duke wouldn't get to them first! Then we took Destin for her nightly car ride (still her only way of falling asleep at night). When she left...she said "Merry Christmas Mommy, Merry Christmas Arwen, Daisy, Duke, Daddy!" It was so cute!

Christmas morning...Destin woke up at 6 AM..then Arwen soon after...we went potty, brushed our teeth, and video taped (the first time we have used our video camera since 2007 - our wedding!) the girls coming down the hall to their presents. We sat on the floor with both girls and opened up all their gifts.

Santa came for his visit leaving lots of toys, and goodies for both the girls...from us & Santa they got...Baby Einstein toys/books (I got 2 big gift sets that came with tons of toys, books, CDs, DVDs & more!), Llama Llama Red Pajama book, Brown Bear book, 3 DVDs (1 Juno dvd - I got this for FREE & 2 Bear in the Big Blue House - I got these for free with my Disney Movie Reward Points), We Did It Dora doll, Little People A-Z Animal set, and a PowerWheels Jeep for both the girls (its a two seater - so when Arwen is older she can ride/drive too). I also bought the girls a bunch of clothes from Old Navy about a month ago, but we decided not to wrap those and had them wearing them since Thanksgiving :) We also bought the final Shrek movie earlier in the week for all of us to share! We also wrapped some of Gpa Todd & Gma Julie's toys to give to the girls...an elmo remote, a laughing rolling horse & a light up musical bear.

After we opened & played with presents in the early morning hours, we got dressed & ready to go to Pat's dads house in Raymore. We already had the Jeep loaded, just had to get the girls & food in the car :) We got to thier house a little after 8:15 AM or so...had a huge breakfast made by Bill & Anna. They had biscuits/gravy, sausage links/patties/bacon, fruit, hashbrowns, pancakes and more! After we ate breakfast, we opened up tons of gifts from Uncle Daniel, Aunt Heather & Braxton; Uncle Mike, Aunt Darcy, Clara & Abby; Uncle Eric & Uncle Andrew, Gpa Bill & Gma Anna; and Great Gma Smith...Wow! The girls got so many neat toys, and clothes to share :) I think Destin's favorite was the puppy popup tent & sleeping bag from Uncle Daniel & Aunt Heather...

Then after we left their house we came back home...got ready for Gma Melanie, Gpa Jeff, Uncle Joe & Great Gma Anne to come over. We made mac n cheese, cheesy potatoes, crescent roll cheese with gouda & crackers...Gma Anne brought burritos & banana pineapple salad, and my mom brought a fruit & veggie tray, sliced ham/turkey/cheese, olives, pickles, BBQ sauce, mini weenies, and tons of dessert (pumpkin bars, red velvet cherry cheesecake cake, cookies, peanut brittle, brownies, and more!).

We ate at 4ish, and then opened up the massive amount of gifts that they brought for us and the girls...Destin loved her Elmo pjs, and all of the toys she received. And Arwen loved her new Baby Einstein bouncer seat. We spent most of the next day putting toys together in the morning. They got lots of books, clothes, and more!

Then that afternoon Great Gma Reta & Great Aunt Tracie came for a visit. We opened up gifts and ate leftovers for lunch :)

Pat & I got some great gifts too....money, giftcards to Kohls/Macy's/Gamestop, a new DVD/VCR player, cookie racks, tupperware, a new movie, MU sweatshirt, a new sweater for me and more! Oh, and I almost forgot - Pat surprised me with a Nook for Christmas. Its one of those eReaders, where you can download books. The one he got me was black/white only, so I was thinking about upgrading and spending my Christmas money to get the Nook Color which would allow me to read books with the girls and more! We are going tonight to get it...I am so excited!!!

Then later this week, Gpa Todd is driving up for a couple days..we haven't seen him since September. Then we will celebrate Christmas one last time with Gma Tammie & Poppy this New Years weekend. Busy, busy, busy!

So...overall I think we all made out very well for Christmas! We got to spend lots of great family time with our loved ones, and I got some great pics to share with you all on Shutterfly. Please check them out! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your family!

"Precious Moments Storybook Bible"

Precious Moments Storybook Bible By Sam Butcher
Published by Thomas Nelson

As a mother to two little girls, I am always looking for great family books that we can share together, and I have to say this book is one that I love! Precious Moment's Storybook Bible, which is put together in a hardbound book starts off with a dedication page where you can put who the book is for, and from. Then it provides a place to enter your Family Tree info, Church info, favorite things & table of contents.

Designed for children, probably preschool age and up, the book is divided into four sections: Favorite Bible Classics (Adam & Eve, Noah's Ark, Baby Moses & more!), Words of Praise & Wisdom, More Stories of the Faith, and Songs & Prayers (you can even add your own at the end). It has beautiful illustrations that bring each of the stories, songs & prayers to life for your children.

I really liked how the book could be personalized for your child, and the size of font (14) which would be perfect for early readers. And at the beginning of every story, it said where it was located in the Bible. I would definitely recommend this book for any family that has young children - it is a must have for any Christian family to own :) The illustrations are wonderful, and the stories are ones that I would love to share with my own girls as they grow up. This would be a great gift for any child, or even for a grandparent who loves Precious Moments!

Thank You so much Booksneeze for letting me review this book! I am really enjoying being apart of your bloggers reading program :) Take care & I look forward to reading more books!

Applied Labels

For those of you that have been reading my blog the last few weeks, you are aware that I have been doing a handful of product reviews. This past week I received another set of clothing/laundry/dishwasher safe labels (see post on 12/7/10), and I decided to put Arwen's name on them this time around.

The company is called Applied Labels: Solutions for Parents & Business. They specialize is creating labels with your child's name or important dates (for bottles or foods) on them. Not only are they dishwasher safe, but they are also washing machine safe. So what does this mean? You can use their labels on clothing, shoes, bottles, plastic ware and more!

Here is what items they sell on thier site (www.appliedlabels.com): Applied Labels (for clothing, shoes, plastic, etc. ~ anything that can be washed in the dishwasher or washing machine), Shoes shields (clean unprinted label covers for protection in shoes), Baby Dates (mini removable date labels), Baby Tapes (dishwasher safe color-code tape), Tag-A-Longs (smaller verison of Applied labels), & Content labels.

For this review they sent me ~ in a box via USPS, nicely sealed in a a ziplock baggie a receipt of the order, 60 AppliedLabels with the optional icon (see more info below) - Font: Cutie, Icon: Butterfly, Name: Arwen Roach; 30 clothing (blank/white) backers (these go in between the clothing & the label with the name on it), 1 strip of 12 shoe shields (blank/clear backers - these go on top of the label with the name on it). And last but not least, an instruction page of how to use the product.

When it came to making your labels 'unique', I have to say I wasn't really that impressed...the ink they use is black, and even though you can get other colors - I found it kind of boring. You could only choose from 3 different types of Font, but they were cute for the most part. And then you have the option to use an icon which makes your 'name' two lines instead of one. I got the butterfly icon to go with Arwen's name. There are more than 15 icons to choose from:

As far as comparing this label to the other ones I received a few weeks ago, I would have to say that they are both very durable, and worth the time to use. Not so sure about the cost (just for my pack alone it was almost $30). And with the other labels you did not have any clear strips for the shoes (thiers just went on without one), and the same for the clothing backers (the other brand just went on without a 'backer'). But both label companies offer a great guarantee and inspected to satisfy their customers.

Applied Labels (TM) are extremely tough, ultra versatile and perfect for labeling: bottles , sippy cups, shoes, school supplies, gadgets, summer camp gear & all those little things that go to early childcare centers.

Check out thier website: http://www.appliedlabels.com/

Thank you Tomoson & Applied Labels for letting me try out your product!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers. Potty chart ~ Week 4

Destin has been actively potty training for 4 weeks straight...with undies only for the last 2 weeks. And we have been going to the grocery store, out to eat, etc. with undies on too :)

My sweet girl is growing up! She is still having an average of 1 accident/day...which is amazing! I can't believe that she is going potty on her own, asking to go potty, sharing with mommy/daddy that she went ~ all without a sticker chart, or a treat in return. We tried the sticker chart for a couple days, but it didn't really motivate - she just wanted to wear it on her shirt, and then forgot about it. And I don't think rewarding with candy or toys is a good way to teach her - and besides, she does it without an incentive!

So yay! Just wanted to update everyone on that :)

What's for dinner at your house? Please share! I am always looking for new ideas!

Bryton Pick - Floss in Seconds!

I want you to be honest with me, how honest do you floss? If you are like me, and the rest of my family...not too often, or only when you are getting ready to go to the dentist for your checkup every year. The product I am about to share with you, my readers, is a great way to floss without the hassle that comes with flossing! No pain, no worrying about throwing it away, or using too much/little.

Recently I was selected through Tomoson, to try a great new product called BrytonPick. BrytonPick is a string-free, portable and reusable dental space cleaner. The flexible edges are as thin as dental floss. Designed for use after every meal, BrytonPick brings relief to an everyday problem by easily removing food stuck between the teeth. Also, it replaces all improvised and un-hygienic "items" used in an attempt to remove pieces of food from between teeth, such as: paper clips, business cards, matches, or finger nails. Check out their website here: http://www.brytonpick.com/

What does it look like? Its like a mini boomerang, with two ends that have stainless steel edges which do the job of fitting in between your teeth to get the job of flossing done!

What's really about this product? Its flexible. Its re-usable for up to 30 days (made with germ-resistant stainless steel). It comes in a small credit card sized pouch you can fit into your purse or wallet. It doesn't hurt when you use it. Its very easy to clean. You can use it anytime, anywhere! You can use it with braces (which I don't have, but I couldn't imagine how hard it is to floss with braces!).

How do you use it? First off, make sure you are at least 10 years of age or older! Keep your mouth open in a smiling position. Gently insert either-end of the BrytonPick between your teeth. SLIDE between teeth INSIDE - OUT. The stainless steel cleaning edges may bend to adapt to your teeth. When finished, cleanse with napkin, tissue or hot water. Then you can store your BrytonPick in its credit card size carrying pouch.

How much does it cost? According to their site, they sell for 4 individual 3 packs for $19.95. Not too shabby!

Where you can you buy them? The only place I have seen them is on their site, but they may be available at a store near you! So keep your eyes out for this great product! http://www.brytonpick.com/

What are my thoughts? I really liked using this product. At first, it was a little scary not knowing if it would hurt my gums...and it felt a little weird sticking this foreign object in between my teeth - but after that feeling of worry went away, I really liked the product. It got the job done, and I felt comfortable using it with no worries whatsoever. Thank You Tomoson & BrytonPick for selecting me to try out this product for free :) I really enjoyed looking at all the celebrities who used the product on their site too!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using

My girls are growing up...

Happy Sunday!
This weekend I have discovered that my girls are growing up way too fast...Pat had to work yesterday, but after we ate dinner and while we were watching a movie we discovered that our girls were growing up before our eyes :)

Arwen rolled over for the first time yesterday (Saturday)...from back to tummy. She kept doing it over and over again! My baby girl is getting so smart..now she can get around by rolling to what she wants!

And Destin has learned to repeat EVERYTHING we say. Pat spelled out the word S%!$ and Destin then spelled it out too! Yikes! And she repeats everything I say - its like she is mocking me at times :P Its pretty funny! Also, she has been officially wearing undies for two weeks (and this week we have been going out in undies only, instead of switching to a diaper before we leave). And for the most part she is doing wonderful - with only 1 accident a day - if that! Also...instead of wanting to watch Elmo or Dora - she now wants to watch Shrek instead! She still loves Elmo & Dora..but Shrek is what she loves to watch this past week for some reason :)

Today we drove out to Prarie Village, KS to The Learning Tree toystore - I won a $50 prize pack from KC Parent Magazine a couple weeks ago...it included a Thomas the train set (with two mini trains), a wooden train ferri thing, and a Thomas the train giant puzzle. I went ahead and gave to Destin & she loves them! She loves trains!

She absolutely loved going to Union Station last weekend (a family four pack giveaway I won from KC Parent) with my mom, stepdad, and my little brother (Uncle Joe). I can't remember if I wrote about that day...but it was a lot of fun. We got to see the planetarium show with Big Bird & Elmo. Then to Science City & a miniature train display (hundreds of mini moving trains with smoke/noise). Very cool! I got a handful of really great pics too!

Last week I won from Freebies & Giveaways weekly Friday giveaway (via Facebook) - it was a professional photo thing. I will take a pic of it when I get it! Oh, and then yesterday I found out I won a another giveaway from Simple Mom (
http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.simple-momreviews.com%2F2010%2F12%2Fi-scream-you-scream.html&h=7dcd3)! I won a a Gift Certificate good for a 1.5 quart carton of either Dreyer's or Edy's Grand Ice Cream. Yay! This is my month to get free stuff! Woo hoo!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I can't believe Christmas is 1 week away...

Potty chart ~ Week 2/3

Destin's potty chart ~ week 2/3 (I am not sure what to call this week since we officially started the first week of December with going) and she went the week before in November too...so I will call this week 3 I guess.

For the most Destin is doing really well...only having a couple accidents here & there. We are still working on going poop in the potty - instead of rushing in there while she is still going or trying to go. I am so proud of my big girl! We will see what happens next week...

Thur: Pee x 4 (undies all day!) - only 1 accident, but she went right after too.
She is starting to learn that if she goes in her undies, she runs to the potty to finish.

Fri: Pee x 5 (she went by herself 2x on her own, with no accidents all day!)

Sat: We went to Union Station, so I had her wear a diaper most of the day...but we still took her to go potty. She went twice while we were there & stayed dry! No accidents! Although we are still working on going poo in the potty...she wants to put a diaper on for that.

Sun: Undies all day again...no accidents :)

Mon: Undies all day...no accidents - except for when she had to poop!

Tues: Undies all day...1 accident (when I was feeding Arwen) & when she had to poop. I think we need to work on going poop in the potty! Not sure why she is more comfortable standing up to do it...I guess just because she is used to it.

Wed: Undies all day - 2 accidents

Thurs (12/16): Undies all day again - 1 poop accident :(

The Meaning of Christmas...

On my nightly drive, Destin & I always love looking at the lights together...which had me wondering, why do people put lights on their house at Christmas? I have noticed more and more people do it at Halloween - but almost every other house puts up lights for Christmas. Sadly we haven't this year, and probably won't due to time, the weather and whatever else. I would love to put some up next year though...because I know Destin loves them!

I know there are several meanings of Christmas, either it be something that you make your own or from the history/religion. Do people put up lights because they know the history of them? Or do they do as a tradition of thier own? I am not sure...I do not know alot about religion, or going to chuch; so when I came across this article I learned quite a bit... The article which I found in KC Parent magazine explains some things that we do at Christmas...

http://kcparent.com/KCParent/10-12-01/Christmas_Traditions.aspx

1. Christmas Lights

Adorning the Moorish towers of the Country Club Plaza are Kansas City’s famous Plaza Lights, twinkling since 1925. Legend holds holiday lights date back to the 16th century German reformer, Martin Luther, who first placed candles on a Christmas tree long before the invention of stringed bulbs. The lights are symbolic of Christ, the “light of the world.” And our glowing tree toppers—stars and angels—symbolize the star that shone over a stable in Bethlehem and the host of angels proclaiming Jesus’ birth.

2. Christmas Tree

Decorating with evergreens harkens back to ancient Egyptians, who used the branches to honor the god of winter solstice. Similarly, the Scandinavians and Celtic Druids revered these plants for their hope of life in the dead of winter. But evergreens, remaining ever green as other plants wither and die, have become an enduring Christian symbol of everlasting life.

The Christmas tree became rooted in this metaphor when Saint Boniface, in the seventh century, used the fir tree’s triangular shape to teach about the mystery of the eternal trinity—God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In 12th century Central Europe, Christmas trees were hung upside down from ceilings. Later in Germany, trees were decorated with dried fruits, apples and wafers representing the Tree of Life and the body of Christ.

3. Wreaths

Dotting doorways around Kansas City, the holly wreath greets passersby with welcoming cheer. First used to honor ancient Roman gods, the wreath symbolizes eternal life for its circular shape and lasting green. It also pierces to the heart of the Christmas story. Tradition holds that the crown of thorns worn by Jesus at his crucifixion was formed of prickly holly and that its berries, once white, were tinged red by his blood.

4. Giving gifts

Gift-giving is a quintessential custom around the world, but the gift bearer is not always the jolly Santa Claus who makes a stop-in for breakfast at the local HyVee. Like Britain’s Father Christmas, France’s Père Noël, Brazil’s Papai Noel and the Netherland’s Sinterklaas, Santa Claus’ origins trace to the patron saint of children, Turkey’s Saint Nicholas. Santa’s flying reindeer—eight in all, until the addition of a certain red-nosed buck—pay tribute to the Norse god, Odin, whose chariot was pulled by a flying, eight-legged steed.

In Russia and Italy, the gift giver is a witch, Babushka and Befana, respectively. Legend says the crone was too busy sweeping her floors to accompany the magi on their journey to Bethlehem. She soon had a change of heart and took up a basket of gifts to offer the Christ child. To this day, Babushka wanders the countryside (Befana on her flying broom) in search of this holy baby, leaving toys for all good children along the way.

5. Caroling or singing Christmas songs

The Christmas narrative recounts voices of angels glorifying God, but the custom of caroling is largely credited to Saint Francis of Assisi. Francis used songs to teach common folk, who couldn’t read or understand the Latin mass, the Christmas story.

Caroling house-to-house heralds back to medieval wassails. In England, peasants visited the homes of feudal lords to bestow blessings in exchange for food and wassail, a warm drink. In Greece and Romania, children still knock on doors, caroling for treats. And in Mexico, on the night of Las Posadas (“The Inns”), chanting pilgrims venture house-to-house in candlelit processions. Several times they are refused lodging, reenacting Mary and Joseph’s arduous journey. The procession ends huddled around a nativity scene in homage to the Christ Child—God With Us—born on earth.

Did you learn something new? I hope so! Or maybe it just refreshes your memory for those of you who couldn't remember some of the background behind the symbols of Christmas that you see around you.

Destin is 22 months old today!

Destin is 22 months old today...only 2 more months until our baby girl is 2 years old! I just can't believe how close it is! I went ahead and ordered her invites from Shutterfly about a month ago...and added a sweet poem which I will post later on :)

Destin just loves playing with her babydolls, legos, watching Elmo & Dora, and she is learning so much! She is still learning Spanish & English - counting to 20, shapes, colors, ABCs and more! She is also mastering potty training. This is the first week we have gone with undies all day (diaper at night) and had no accidents! She is doing awesome! My goal was to be potty trained by Christmas - so that might be coming true! Yay!

She is so excited for Christmas! We bought her a Powerwheels Toyota car, Dora doll, books & more! I know she will have so much fun this year opening her present...and Christmas will be here in less than 2 weeks! I think we are just as excited as she is...this year she will actually be able to open up all of her gifts on her own and I just know she will love it!

She is talking more and more in sentences, singing songs, dancing every time she hears the radio....and is always always on the GO! We have been going without a nap the last couple weeks - which means less time for me, but an earlier bedtime around 8 or 8:30ish. The only downside of bedtime, is that she still won't sleep for us unless we drive her in the car around the block. She will scream, cry and throw a fit in her room for hours, and will just play in our bed...which means we go to bed too early! Hopefully she will learn to go to sleep on her own before her birthday - that is my goal!

Arwen is doing wonderful at 4 months old...she is loving to explore, adores tummy time, and wants to watch/play with her big sister. She is cooing, laughing and smiling all the time - it is very rare to see her sad/crying. She is such a good sleeper too! She sleeps all night in her crib now (for about a week), and takes about 2 naps/day. We are so excited to see her learn new things, and can't wait for her to start crawling and try to keep up with Destin. Pretty soon we will start giving her babyfood/cereal in the next couple months...Oh! And she is getting her first tooth on the bottom - it should be here any day!

"The Principle of the Path"

The Principle of the Path:
How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be
By Andy Stanley

Description:
“The Principle of the Path” written by Andy Stanley, is a self-help book. A simple message. The choices you make along your path determine where you will end up. Hence the principle of “the path”. Unless of course, something or someone interferes with the choices you make, in which case, you can end up somewhere else. While the advice offered in this book is relevant for anyone, it is primarily for Christian readers because it relies heavily on biblical references and includes some discussion on sin and repentance.

My thoughts...
The first chapter was a really good introduction and got me pumped to read the rest of the book, but I was wrong. I felt as though, based on the subtitle, this book would give some insight into how to get from point A to point B. It didn't. The book basically shared the things that we all know we should be doing, but did not share how to make yourself do them. Stanley's thesis is pretty clear from the beginning- the choices we make determine our outcome. Making a series of poor choices probably will result in some poor outcomes. Each subsequent chapter outlines more examples of how people were faced with choices and how those choices led them to where they were. I kept hoping the next chapter would provide new information, or more advice on guiding one's self or organization down the path to where we want to go. But it never got better, and I have to say I was disappointed with this book.

There was something Mr. Stanley stated in the book that I really did not care for, where he says, “the casual sex as a teen and cervical cancer or infertility at thirty”. That statement really angered me. Infertility and cervical cancer are punishments for having casual sex as a teenager? What about the women who didn't have casual sex as teenagers and still end up with one or the other or maybe both? That just blames the woman suffering from these problems…what an antiquated view of the world!

After reading that statement, I read the book differently. Yes, you can choose the path you take, but it's not always clear where it leads. You can take what seems to be a promising job, but get fired, laid off or you might not like it. You could be in a car accident that was in no way, shape or form your fault. You could lose a loved one various different ways. Many things happen in life that cannot be easily predicted. Hindsight is 20/20, it's easy to say "Oh, I should have never gone out with him" or "I knew the weather was bad" but I think most people cannot see that far into their future to know that the career they chose at 25 would be eliminated by the time they were 40.

Upon reading the book, I realized the tone was very depressing overall. After the first few chapters we get it: Our choices determine the path we take in life. Good or bad. For the bad though, Stanley doesn't offer much hope. If your marriage fails, too bad, you took the wrong path. In debt? So sorry, you are messed up for life. There seems to be no answers given, and no hope instilled. The author gave no common sense strategies to help those who found themselves on the wrong path other than telling them where that path would lead. He also gave no help for those seeking the right path. He just stated the obvious repeatedly without any practical help. To make it worse, Stanley felt the need to justify the obvious, by spending far too long exaggerating a few verses of Proverbs. I am talking chapters of defensive-sounding Scriptural lay-level exegesis.

And then he repeated it all again, basically saying everyone who is in debt, buys new cars with loans, has a bad marriage or disobedient kids are idiots with only themselves to blame.

On a positive note, the book was a fairly easy read and his examples are relatable. While I felt like I needed something more and deeper from this book, I do think there are those in the world need to know that making reckless choices now will only harm them in the end. I would recommend this book for those who would like encouragement in the truth that making wise choices now is making a choice for goodness in your life. Also, the book ends with a Study Guide that guides the reader through a process for applying the ideas discussed in the book.

Thank You so much Book Sneeze for letting me be a part of your program! I am looking forward to reading more books in the future! This is my fifth book review that I have finished with their program and I am really enjoying my experience :)

What are you having this week?

Potty training (chart) and Sleeping update

As you know we have been busy with potty training & sleep training Destin...well I think we only have enough patience for one at the moment...so we have been working on potty training!

I posted over the weekend that Destin has been going potty more often...I am trying to keep track of her progress, so here is a potty chart that I am starting for this week:

Thur, 12/2: Pee & Poo x 1
Fri, 12/3: Pee x 1
Sat, 12/4: Pee & Poo x 1

Sun, 12/5: Pee x 2
Mon, 12/6: Pee x 4 - had about 2 accidents - (also put diaper on her)
Tues, 12/7: Pee x 2 - had about 4 accidents (Underwear all day)
Wed, 12/8: Pee x 2 - had 1 accident (Undies all day) as of 1 PM

We are still doing a diaper at night...which I think might be one of the reasons sleep training isn't going well. We are also still working on pooing in the toilet...she has just a few times since we caught her in the act. I am still working on her telling me when she needs to go. Right now she goes in her underwear, and then rushes over to the potty after the fact. We have been lucky enough to stay home, and go when she is dry...trying multiple times/day.

As far as sleep training goes...yeah, not so much! She does not want to nap, so I am keeping her awake all day, and then at around 8ish we take her for a drive. I feel like I am being such a lazy parent...she won't stay in her bed, or bedroom for that matter...she will cry for hours on end..and instead of sticking to it and making her do this - we take her for a drive. We have been driving her at night for about two weeks now, and it works great because she usually is asleep within minutes after going up the road...but she still wakes up in the middle of the night screaming and ends up in our bed hours later. I just don't know what to do..I am so upset that nothing has worked, and I wish we could start over - but it just seems impossible.

I am hoping that Patrick & I can figure out something else to do. I would love for the girls to get on a set schedule for sleeping, eating and more...but I would like some help..Especially since Destin does not want to sleep without daddy. The night he was gone out with his friends, she went to sleep no problem. I think he is the main reason she doesn't want to sleep - she has him wrapped around her finger and he will do anything for her...like letting her sleep in our bed. Maybe if we both read to her, sit with her, etc. she will eventually let me just do it. I don't know?? She is such a daddy's girl, that she needs him for everything when he is home. But if he isn't home, she does okay with my rules. I think Patrick & I need to find some rules/guidelines for bedtime and find a routine that will work for all of us. I just don't know how or when it will happen.

Arwen is sleeping so good! She still naps about twice a day, and will sleep all night (as long as Destin doesn't wake her up screaming). And this week at 4 mos old, I have been putting her down in her crib, instead of her bassinet. She still sleeps good, and we listen for her on the baby monitor. I am still doing my cloth diaper research for her..but right now its on hold due to time and money. It just seems like the right and green thing to do since I do laundry almost everyday anyway.

There is still no schedule, per say...Arwen sleeps at different times per day...and we don't really do anything the same everyday other than dinner (which also changed since Pat is now working 8 hours instead of 10). We need a schedule! That is my goal for the next month is to find one that works during the day, and then figure out what to do for night time...bath, books, snacks, TV time, etc. We mostly need to find how to put both girls to sleep while they are awake so that they go to bed at night and sleep ALL night in their own beds.

Olivers Labels

Recently I came across this great website for bloggers...its called Tomoson. And if you have lots of friends or fans on your blog, Facebook and/or Twitter, you can apply to review products :)

So I have been applying for a couple weeks, and I finally was approved for one! The company is called Oliver's Labels. I received my labels my USPS in an envelope. ~ inside was a ziplock baggie with instructions on how to remove & apply the labels to a toy, shoe or clothing; as well as a mini brochure about their product. My baggie had four different labels inside with my daughter's name on them: original, mini, shoe & stick-eez clothing labels.

Their labels can be used on items that go in the dishwasher, microwave, fridge, freezer and outdoors. The clothing labels are very easy to apply, and can be thrown into the washing machine & dryer without coming off. There are lots of design themes to choose from...I got the Polka Dots (which come in 5 colors). You can add allergy designs if your little one is allergic to nuts or dairy for example (others are available). You get to choose what name to use, or can have it monogrammed. The labels are vinyl made and are guaranteed to never have the printing rub off!

How often have you gone to the store and noticed a missing toy, or jacket? I know I have! These labels would help prevent you from losing your item forever...thanks to their free lost & found program. What I thought was really cool was the "Found-It Tracking System". This optional feature prints a code on your labels for FREE! If your child ever loses an item, the person who finds the item can go to the website http://www.oliverslabels.com/, and then enter the code to recover your lost item. You can either call, email or do it on their site to notify the owner of their lost item. You can also tell the owner where they can retrieve their item lost. Very neat!

So how much does this all cost? Well they have different packages available ranging from $27 to $59....or you can buy individual labels which come in groups of 5 I think from $5 to $12. They even added a new product where you can put a picture with your child's name - so cool!

If you are interested in buying this product - let me know because I was thinking about signing up as a product agent. That's right! You can sell these too and earn 15% commission doing so! They also have fundraisers too where your school or organization can earn 20% on the sale! Wow!

I have to say this product is really cool! I can't wait to use them all up on my daughters coat, shoes, toys & more! So far, they are working great and staying true to the company's word of not rubbing off.

So here is the info you need to learn more about them:

"Voices of the Faithful - Book 2"

Voices of the Faithful: Inspiring Stories of Courage from Christians Serving Around the World
By Beth Moore & Kim P. Davis, International Mission Board
Published by Thomas Nelson

"Voices of the Faithful" is a devotional book with an entry for each day of the year. This second book is what makes this devotional series stand out from all the rest is each entry is written by a missionary serving around the world. As you read this book you get the awesome opportunity to hear stories of missionaries while also meditating on God's Word for the day Every entry is concluded with a prayer. Sometimes you will pray for missionaries serving around the world, sometimes for people groups, and sometimes for your own heart and life.

Each devotional comes from someone who is in a situation many of us will never have to be in. This is because these are stories written by missionaries from all over the world. In addition to the daily reading there are also a daily scripture and prayer. Each month is broken down further into a common theme.

Anyone who picks up a copy of Voices of the Faithful Book 2 will walk away with a sense of encouragement and inspiration. These are amazing stories told by amazing people with missionary hearts and minds.

Thank You so much Book Sneeze for letting me be apart of your program! I am looking forward to reading more books in the future! This is my fourth book review that I have finished with thier program and I am really enjoying my experience :)

"Voices of the Faithful - Book 1"

Voices of the Faithful - Book 1: Inspiring Stories of Courage from Christians Serving Around the World
Written by Beth Moore and Published by Thomas Nelson

This is a collection of short essays written by western Christian missionaries who are located throughout the world. Beth Moore compiles this set of short inspirational readings (one for every day). Each reading is one page. The objective is that you read the short essay, all of which are based on Bible verses, and contemplate the teaching throughout the day.

There is a total of 366 devotions (even one for Feb. 29th!), each being a different story and from all parts of the world. Some stories include (taken from the book jacket)

- A Christian claims the name of God at knifepoint- and lives to tell about it...

- Prayer revives a coma victim, in defiance of village witch doctors

- An abused 7-year old asks, "Do you have any pills that would give me hope?"

- Prayerwalking college students lay a foundation for spritiual revival in West Africa

- A former Muslim finds forgiveness in the Jesus she denied.

A great collection of true-life stories. Missionaries go all over the world to do His work and many come back with amazing stories to tell. You'll be amazed what these people go through, espeically when we worry about the day-to-day. Perhaps this book will even help you to know if you want to be a missionary or not. If you've been entertaining the idea, then this book may help.

The essays are arranged by subject. Each month has a different theme. February - the word of God. March - prayer. Etc. Each month's essays are preceded by comments by Beth Moore.

Some of the essays are very inspiring. It takes a couple of minutes to do the daily reading, but one can contemplate it during your daily commute or throughout the entire day. Some of these messages are that good.

Overall I found this a worthwhile read, but certainly not a page-turner. Which I suppose is the purpose anyways, to be a daily devotional rather than a book read in one or two sittings. I would recommend this book as a daily read.

Thank You so much Book Sneeze for letting me be apart of your program! I am looking forward to reading more books in the future! This is my third book review that I have finished with thier program and I am really enjoying my experience :)

"The Truth of the Matter" by Andrew Klavan

"The Truth of The Matter" by Andrew Klavan
"The Truth of the Matter" written by Andrew Klavan is the third book in the 'The Homelander Series'. I was actually unaware of this author and the series, so I wasn't sure if reading this book at the third one was such a great idea. The first two books of the series "The Last Thing I Remember" and "The Long Way Home" I heard were really well written. As I started to read the third installment of his series, I found that Andrew Klavan does an excellent job keeping readers up to speed on what's going on, and recaps enough that someone picking up the series at this point could figure out what's been going on.
The book is set in present times or just in the future. Charlie has found himself without the memory of a year of his life. During that time, he has been convicted of murder (his best friend), sent to prison, broken out of prison, and is being chased by two sets of unknown government type groups. As you can tell from just this vauge list of events, this is an action packed book series. The basic plot in book 3, is that the main character, Charlie West, has been looking for a character named Waterman, who supposedly holds the key to his memory loss and the reason he's being chased by a group of terrorists known as the Homelanders. By finding Waterman in New York, Charlie can discover the truth about what's going on.

In this book, a lot comes to light: how and why he became part of the Homelanders, the events surrounding his best friend's murder, and how and why he lost the memory of those events in the first place. Join Charlie, as he begins to unravel the incredible truth that has escaped his memory and left him searching for answers. And as he begins to find out the truth...it changes everything!

This book seemed to have a Christian message(using his faith to guide him and help him in tough situations) and what made the book such a great read, in my opinion, is that it was a clean, curse-free, sex-free and overall great book for teens or adults alike. Overall, a great book to read! I would recommend this to ages 13 and up.

Look for "The Final Hour" (book four of the series) in August 2011.

I can't remember everything!

Week 8's Menu:
S: Crescent Dogs with cheese, fries & ?

M: Homemade Manicotti, Garlic bread & salad

T: Bear Creek Potato Soup (just add water & shredded cheese) & BLTs - this was so yummy!

W: Pork chops, cheesy potatoes, & cheesy peas

T: Steak & ?

F: Porkloin, stuffing & corn

S: Frozen Pizza
